Thanksgiving, Birthdays, and more....

So much has happened in the past couple of weeks. We had the opprotunity to spend Thanksgiving with all of our family and it was a great experience. We are seldom thankful enough for our wonderful family and friends. Thank you all for being there for us and loving us. Here is a photo of the cute little gobbler!

Soon after Thanksgiving, it was Elena's 2nd Birthday. She was lucky to have two wonderful birthday parties, a Wonder Pets Birthday Party at Nana's house and a Cookie Monster Party at her home. She was given some wonderful gifts and she had a wonderful time. She was even lucky enough to have Matt, Stacey, and the boys in town for her Houston birthday party. Here are the pictures of her two cakes. Thanks Nana and Laura for the great cakes.

Then to top off a week of much fun and festivities, we were blessed with snow in Houston. We acutally got about 4 inches of snow in our area and the ground and cars were covered. It looked like a Christmas card outside and it took my breath away to watch Elena try and catch a snowflake. Here are two of my favorite photos from that night.

Returning to the Blogging World!

Sorry I have been out of touch for the past several weeks, but life has been more busy than ever. On September 29th, I started a new job with Tristone Capital as an Associate. I am doing the same type of work as before, but Tristone helps to sell oil and gas companies. I thought I would be coming in at a slow time, but work really picked up about the third day after I started. I have worked at least part of 3 or 4 weekends since I started and have had some long nights. Things are starting to slow down a little though and I am looking forward to having some time to celebrate the holidays.

To me all the holiday festivities start in October with Halloween. We had a great Halloween this year. Elena dressed as a caterpillar since she loves them so much. Her cousin Victoria joined her as Elmo for Trick-or-Treating. The girls had a wonderful time and Elena is still eating candy she collected that night. Since we only let her have one a day, I guess that is why it lasts so long. Here is a photo of Elena dressed up.

We are definitely looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving with our family both here in Houston and in East Texas. We are also looking forward to December 1st, one week from today. It is the day our little girl turns two. I cannot believe that two years have gone by so fast. I miss being able to hold her like when she was an infant, but she is a lot of fun at this age. Of course she has her toddler moments, but when she is sweet and affectionate, she more than makes up for it.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I will try and post some more family photos after the festivities.

We Survived Ike!

It has been a long couple of weeks but we are getting closer to being normal again. Hurricane Ike hit with a fury early on the morning of September 13th. We weathered the storm at the house with Laura. It was a long night and it was really scary. We lost power about 1 AM and we were without power for 11 days. We lost about 6 trees, one falling on the house. Luckily it did not fall into the home and within an hour the wind had blown it off the house. We have some roof damage, but it will hold until we can get someone to fix it. As you can imagine, contractors are in really high demand right now. The eye passed directly over us, an odd calm in such a scary night. Half of our front fence was blown into the swimming pool, two trees fell on the storage shed, and two more trees fell on our back fence and the power lines. In the grand scheme of things, we were very fortunate. We are all safe and our home is liveable. Many others lost so much more. We have power again and we are working to get our home in order again. Thanks for your concern during this difficult time for us. Below are some photos of our once beautiful yard.

Waiting on Ike!

Hello Family and Friends:

As I am sure many of you know, Hurricane Ike is headed straight towards Galveston and Houston. We are expecting tropical storm force winds as of tomorrow afternoon and then hurricane force winds as of tomorrow night. The hurricane is expected to make landfall by 1 AM Saturday morning. In our area, we are expecting winds of 90 - 120 miles per hour as well as 5-10 inches of rain. We have all of our supplies and we plan to ride out the storm at home. We will most definitely lose power so we will not have internet access or regular phone connections. If you need to call us, our cell phones are the best option. We will send an update as soon as we can.

Long time since last post....

Sorry for the long time since my last post, I just never seem to manage my time well. We have had a great past couple of weeks here. A couple of weeks ago we were able to meet our new nephew, adorable little Carson Reese. He is so adorable and such a good baby, he is even sleeping well this early! I was too busy meeting him that I did not get any photos of him, but here is one that Stacey took, isn't he cute!

The week before last Nana came to stay with us for a week and we had a wonderful time. Elena really loves her Nana and it was wonderful that they were able to spend some time together. They were able to go swimming together and have fun around the house. We got out a little and also stayed in a lot to watch the Olympics. I love watching the Olympics when they are on, but I know that Sam is glad that they are over. One place that we took Nana and PawPaw Danny was the Aquarium. It is a neat resturant downtown that incorporates huge aquariums into the dining area. Elena loved looking at the fish! She is so cute when she gets excited about things. Here is a photo of her and Nana checking out the fish.

Well those are the main updates for now. I will try to do a better job keeping our blog up to date :-)

No damage to report

Well Tropical Storm Edouard made his presence known on Tuesday morning. The storm really started to move into our area around 7 AM and the rain and wind lasted until about 4 PM. We lost power for a few hours, but luckily it was back on before it got too hot. We had over 6.5 inches of rain in our area and the pool was overflowing. The archway in the back yard broke, but other than that we were pretty lucky. In fact most parts of Houston did not flood, which is amazing since Houston floods so easily!

We are headed to East Texas this weekend to meet our new nephew Carson. I cannot wait to hold him and see his tiny hands and feet. I mean our baby is so big now that it is hard to remember what a newborn is like. I will post photos of him once we return. Plus Nana is coming back with us for the week and I am sure Elena cannot wait to spend a week with her Nana! I am sure I will get some other great photos next week that I will post. Have a great weekend everyone!

Waiting on Tropical Storm Edouard

We should see the effects of Tropical Storm Edouard, possibly Hurricane Edouard, by tomorrow morning. We are not expecting too much damage, but we will probably lose power. It will be Elena's first tropical storm. We will let you know how things go tomorrow, or whenever we get power back!

A Visit to the Children's Museum

On Saturday we took Elena to her first visit to the Children's Museum. Her cousin Victoria joined her for a day of fun. I was a little nervous that the museum would not have enough to entertain her, but she had a wonderful time. The highlights of her day included seeing real baby chicks and playing in the toddler fun zone! Here are a few pictures from our day of fun!

The Baby Powder Fiasco

Well as all parents know, toddlers can get into anything. Yesterday Laura, my best friend, and I were going through some of Elena's old clothes. She disappeared for just a minute and returned with half her face covered in baby powder. It made for an adorable photo!

Waiting on Baby Carson

Well it is another lazy Saturday for us. We are getting some things done around the house and just enjoying spending time off. The past couple of weeks at work have been horrible. There have been nights that I worked past midnight and I worked all last weekend. But I am hopeful things will get better soon.

We are anxiously awaiting word of our new nephew Carson. Stacey goes into the hospital tonight to induce labor. We wish you guys the best of luck. I know all will go smoothly. We love you all and cannot wait to meet our new nephew.

Last night there was a Star Wars Clone Wars Midnight Madness sale at Toys R Us. They were selling new items for the Clone Wars movie that comes out in August. Below are a few pics of Sam's booty as well as a really cute one of Elena. She is obsessed with the Wonder Pets right now and as you can see she is clutching all of them. Thank you Laura for starting the obsession.

A Day at NASA Space Center Houston

Well after feeling a little cooped up for the past couple of weeks with Elena being sick, we decided to venture out to the new Star Wars Clone Wars Exhibit at NASA's Space Center Houston. We had a great time, Sam just wished there were more Star Wars movie props. But it was pretty neat and they even had a ship that was used in filiming. Here are a few photos from our adventure.
